Me and my family never thought the beautiful and confident Amelia Upton, my life-long soul mate, might someday need a collection of lace front wigs. Her iconic hair styles was synonymous with impeccable style. Get this. There’s no question she will be eternally recognized for her style. Very few realize she dons synthetic lace wigs. You’d be surprised!
When we were mere children in the hill country, we used to had our picks of boys. In our twenties her hair loss took effect and she became nearly bald. I did hint at some lace front wigs. Oh well, it didn’t matter much. Even on bad days she fearlessly showcased her attitude.
Appearing at our alma mater’s baseball championship, we heckled till her loverboy retardedly flung the orb (or whatever they play with) into the bleachers. Quick on her feet, she tried to get it and her hand-knitted “head sweater” (her idea) flew right off, uncovering her naked head. No big deal, she hurled the thing with a tremendous heave to the game official. What’d I tell ya about her spunk?
However, everyone has insecurities. Once at our semi-monhtly cookie baking marathon, when she sat me down and informed me that she opts to make do with a shorn head as a statement. She could never look at medical wigs, even if she knew it was a good idea. Then just like that she changed the subject and begged that I dismiss the notion. I didn’t know what to say.

Cancer doctors choose what kind of treatment to administer for a patient. The options are endless. There is no regular treatment regimen for malignant mesothelioma cancer patients. This is because of the relative rareness of the disease, the high mortality rate and low treatment success rate, and the few scientific studies to provide meaningful statistics.
The prospects for mesothelioma patients have been grim, but doctors have recently made progress. Traditional treatments for cancer are surgery (removing the tumor and surrounding tissue), chemotherapy (poisoning cancerous cells) and radiation (killing cancer cells with radiation) There are problems with all three. Patients with mesothelioma have not responded well to traditional radiation therapy. Researchers are looking for ways of aiming radiation directly at the tumor in hopes that this will result in less damage to healthy tissue.
Surgery removes the mesothelial tissue around the tumor. It is a grueling surgery with unknown benefits to patients. Common chemotherapy drugs that work on other types of cancer usually do not work on mesothelioma, and different combinations of chemotherapy drugs have been tried without a lot of success. As with radiation, research is going toward controlling the physical location of the treatment with emphasis on the pleural cavity.
The high-mortality rate for mesothelioma patients means cutting-edge techniques for cancer are tried out. These include biologic therapy such as the agent interleukin 2 and anti-angiogenesis drugs such as thalidomide. Pemetrexed (Alimta) is a new drug that has shown results in extending life.
