Some folks want to cut military research and development spending as they say it leads to war. Some believe that we should stop inventing ways to kill humans. Some believe that killing one’s own species is a terrible tragedy of the human endeavor and if we continue this tact we will do nothing more than be doomed to repeat our past follies.
Many of these condemnations of war and the lead up to war are well founded. Even Einstein had said; “You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war.” Yet we know from the cold war and the Reagan Era that we must always negotiate from a position of strength. And of course this means will must continue with our military research and development. And we must also realize that the discoveries we make in bettering of our offensive or defensive strategies, will assist in other discoveries which solve other problems of mankind.
Let us take Los Alamos Labs for instance, as it has always been on the cutting edge innovations, which span all studies of science. Many of the inventions, which have been used in protection of our nation and allies, have had significant transfer technologies to the private sector. You really cannot walk more than a few steps in your own house without seeing technology in normal house appliances, which was made possible thru such advances that are provided in stand out research centers like Los Alamos.
There is nothing wrong with funding such labs or paying scientists big buck to work in such places. There is nothing wrong with choosing a life’s work, which protects the greatest nation ever created in the history of this species. If such labs were shut down like some of the critics want and every scientist lost their jobs, then the forward progress of mankind would stagnate and that would not be world worthy of hanging your life experience. Mankind must Press On. I am so proud of every one at Los Alamos. Have you hugged your military scientists today? Think about all they have given us.

There is a new fad in the web hosting market. Reseller hosting. Where individuals like you and I can become web hosts (sell web hosting) without having to buy all the infrastructure and do-hickeys that go along with setting up such a business.
Becoming a web hosting reseller for a web hosting company is becoming a very profitable past time for a lot of Internet marketers. Being able to earn a monthly on going income selling a service every webmaster needs with out huge setup costs is a hard business model to ignore.
So what exactly is reseller hosting and how can you get started?
Reseller hosting allows you to sell a web hosting companies services as your own. This is called private labelling. Basically they offer you a discount rate on their web hosting services and you sell it off as your own at any price you want.
Reseller hosting can start for as little as $20 a month. That means you can have a full featured web hosting business without any major start up costs.
The great thing about some companies offering reseller web hosting is that they do all the technical work for you as well. They provide around the clock support for you, they manage your servers and they can even bill your customers for you, so all you have to sell is focus on selling their products.
There is more to it but you can find out more about a web hosting companies reseller program by asking them directly. In this article, I want to focus on how to make money by selling web hosting.
So how can you make money selling web hosting? Here are my favorite methods.
#1 - Create And Sell Businesses On Ebay
This is my favorite method of generating sales for my web hosting services. In a nut shell, what I do is I create turnkey businesses (businesses built just to be resold to other people) on Ebay and charge people a flat monthly fee to host the site they just brought on my web hosting service.
If you go to Ebay and have a look in the website/businesses for sale section, you will see people doing just this. It might look strange seeing a website sell for a few dollars. I never use to understand exactly how they made any money, then I realized, they were not making money from the sale of the business, but on the back end. They would create good clean website site, sell it on Ebay for a few dollars and then charge the buyer to host this site on their hosting service.
This is perfectly legal, as long as you tell them up front that they must continue to host their website on your web hosting services for a certain period of time.
You could easily sell 100 small websites a week on Ebay. On average, you could sell hosting for $10 a month. So every week, you could be making $1000 a week. But that’s not the best thing, since web hosting is paid monthly, you get paid monthly for as long as they stay with your web hosting service. This is as close as a steady pay check as you are going to get with Internet marketing.
You get paid every month whether or not you actually even work.
#2 - Become A Dedicated Hosting Service Just For Blogs
Blogging is hot right now. Very hot. There are an estimated 40,000 new blogs started every day. EVERY DAY. Can you imagine that? Sure, most of them are hosted for free, but there are a lot of blogs and bloggers who want the control of having a domain name and their own web hosting for their blogs.
The great thing about blogs is that they take up very little disk space and transfer (bandwidth) allowance. You can host many, many blogs with very little resources and you can charge a good price for your services.
Another great thing about blogs and bloggers is that most successful bloggers have more then one blog. This is great because blogs take very little technical assistance on your part which means you can grow your business quicker and have more paying customers without the need for costly and time sapping technical support.
So how can you market your blogging web hosting service? Good question! Here’s an even better answer.
Forums! And not just forums about blogging. Any forum, any topic could be perfect for a blog, and there are a lot of people in forums looking for a way to express their interest in their hobby or passion.
You could easily position yourself as the service to go to for niche blogs. You could target forums that talk about any subject. Fishing, gardening, dog training, pie eating, you name it.
Posting in forums with helpful answers will no doubt bring you a lot of qualified business. Just make sure you answer with helpful posts and not just blatant plugs for your business.
The way to really make an impact with this type of service is to offer something no one else is doing. Maybe you could get an ebook written about the secrets to niche blogging and give that away with every hosting sale, or maybe you could give away free unique content that they could use every month on their blogs when they sign up for 6 or 12 months of hosting.
There are many ways to make money reselling hosting, and as you can tell, it is quite the lucrative business model.
To your success.

“What do you do?”
“I’m a CPA. What do you do?”
“I’m a stockbroker.”
End of conversation.
And the end of an opportunity to promote you and what you do in a way that will increase your prospects, publicity and profits.
Some like to call it The Elevator Speech” as in something you can say in the time it takes to ride on an elevator.
What I found is that many many people never ride on elevators. So the term Laser Speech really gets at what you want to do - communicate what you do in a focused and compelling way.
What I Said Before
I came across this technique out of desperation. In the past, when someone would ask what I did, I would answer with “I’m a marriage and family therapist.”
I thought it was a pretty good thing to say, I am proud of what I do and have worked hard to get here.
The problem was when I said I was a marriage and family therapist, I would get one of three reactions:
1)”Oh, that’s nice.” And then turn and walk away as if I am dangerous or something.
2)”Oh, so have you been analyzing me?” Not until right now is what I was tempted to say.
3) The person would begin to tell me, in detail, all about their horrible husband or wife.
What I Do Now
Contrast that with waht I use now in response to “What do you do?”
“Do you know how so often in relationships couples will drift apart and end up room mates instead of soul mates?”
“Well what I do is empower couples to create passionate and loving relationships that will last.”
The minimum response I usually get is “Wow, do you have a business card?”
The best, and typical response I get is either want to schedule an appointment right away or know someone that does.
Create Your Own Laser Speech
Notice the specifics of this model:
1) “Do you know how………followed by the naming of a common problem that you see in your area of expertise.
2) Followe by “Well what I do is………..a benefit rich compelling statement about what you do.
So simply fill in the following blanks:
“Do you know how………………………..?
“Well what I do is………………………
And you will be on your way to a compelling laser speech that will increase your prospects, publicity and profits.

“Owning your business category online
is more than just a few keywords…
Is your website broken?”
Let’s face it, the Internet is a crowded place… and it’s becoming even more crowded as you read this. Your business can’t stand still online, and you can’t afford to look backwards. Qualified, targeted traffic generation is what we all desire. Owning your category online goes a long way in providing just that.
It’s not about just looking forward, but moving forward and taking some ownership. Every business online today is worried about being found in the Top 10 Search Engines and Directories for their products or services - and they should be! Statistics still make them (search engines) the number one stop for all surfers.
But, just for a moment let’s imagine that these search engines and directories provide the most relevant results. That’s right, let’s just say for the sake of this article, that they all work extremely well. O.K?
Now, since we believe that our products or services are way more relevant than those companies listed above us in (today’s) search engines results - we have to admit something is wrong… but remember, the search engines are perfect.
We all know you can buy your keywords in Google and Overture right? Does that make you the best? (not.) Do surfers know this? (Yes.) Does it make your business (your website) any more relevant? (No.) It does put businesses with a larger budget at the top of the pile again, that’s all. Is this why many of us don’t click on sponsored links? (Ahem…)
If the search engines were (are) perfect, then let’s get back to something else being wrong. Hmmm, my website must be broken! Wow, somebody is actually staying with me here.. My website must be broken?
Why else would all those “other” websites be showing up ahead of my business when people search for my products/services/information? Don’t these people know we are the experts? (nope.) Don’t they know our products are superior? (nope.) Can’t they see the skill we employ and our dedication to employee and customer service? (nope.) Haven’t they read the reviews? (probably…)
So, in an effort to help you “own your category online”, here’s some suggestions to assist your business in getting ahead of those “other” websites and putting your business where it rightly belongs! If you already employ all these practices, we commend you. But if you find yourself behind, these tips can help your company without having to become a Webmaster or a Search Engine Marketing Professional. Pass these on to your Marketing Team and get better results and recognition starting today!
Do: Research the search terms (keywords) that people would use in seeking out your offerings. You can start with Wordtracker and the search terms you first come up with.
Wordtracker will help you locate terms that are similar to your terms in meaning and search. It is a tool that gives you an *idea of what the general terms people are using, and how many searches are taking place on these terms… * that’s another book though. This is a great starting point and the trial really is free!
Tip: Do not just ‘look-up’ your company name, - prospective customers or vendors or partners are not looking you up by your ‘company name’ in Google - they don’t know it yet…? Surfer’s have become quite good at ’searching’. Be specific and general. You can also learn who you have to beat online! - Who’s kicking your butt when people search for your product or service online? That first page of results is your market share online!
Do: Make sure you have a *keyword specific “Title” for every webpage that’s relevant to the content on that page (*keyword specific, not keyword stuffed).
Page Title; Top of the screen, blue ‘title’ bar (in explorer). I still see thousands of websites with “Homepage” in the title bar, or “MyOneHotBusiness.com” and just that phrase or ‘Title’ is repeated throughout every page on their website! Each page in your website is (content) unique - make it’s ‘Title’ unique too! Or call your webmaster with new “titles” for each of your website pages. Different values are placed on this “page title” from the different search engines and directories.
Tip: Add “Chicago, Chicagoland, Illinois” to the end of your Title (your city, state). This helps in regional search queries.
Do: Have at least 200 words of (content specific) text on the pages of importance (homepage, category pages, etc.).
This is what the engines and directories DO read, these words and links are how the engines interpret what’s on this page. Images or pictures of words or “ads” are not “read” so-to-speak. Make this text content highly relevant to the topic (product or service) on this page.
Tip: Put your fancy Flash commercial on a link from your homepage and put up a content relevant page of your best text instead! Visitors will still look at your commercial if you tell us it’s cool, but don’t force us to watch it! - That’s not what we came for. This Flash file does almost nothing for search engines and directories.
Do: Have yourself or your professional staff write articles on their specific area of expertise in product or service. Make these articles a webpage with relevant links to the product or service directly.
Short of hiring a Search Engine Marketing Consultant or a Professional Copywriter, these detailed articles if rich and full of relevant content, are the exact pages that will generate you the most qualified and targeted visitor to your business! Once these ‘article pages’ are crawled (indexed) by the search engines you will be pleasantly surprised to see that (now) you are a more relevant search result.
(Not to be confused with ‘links’ or ‘reciprocal linking programs’ - your (article) webpages are much more “read” and effective in sending the reader to your site, or keeping them there, not to mention the branding opportunities)
These articles not only show your business as an authority, they prove it in words and information for the reader, me, a human. These concise type articles are an excellent way to gain exposure, recognition (branding), traffic, and yes, even sales. You said you were an authority, now prove it.
Tip: Submit these articles to other online and offline publications and Ezine’s. You make them available to other websites just for leaving your Author and link intact. There are businesses craving this type of content for their website’s success! Your business website will begin receiving quality traffic from every website that posts your company’s article(s)! Now there’s a strong statement.
Do: Include your URL (www.) in every piece of material you print - every piece of traditional advertising you already pay for!
Every week I read through different newspapers and magazines - I can’t believe how many businesses forget to put their web address in that Advertisement they paid for. You pay big bucks for a quarter page ad or whatever, and then never mention your website!?! Which is open 24/7/365 - and that Tribune is just around for two days! Start your marketing return on investment right there!
Tip: Offer a website only promotion or coupon in your Ads to generate further interest and traffic to your specific offer web pages!
Do: Ask visitors to “Bookmark your site” or “Tell a friend” or “Send this article to a friend”…
Your visitors don’t always think of it, so just ask them? Bookmarks not only increase return visitors, but they also give you a vote of confidence in providing something worthwhile… even if that’s a return trip! This does not have to be bold and obnoxious either, a simple button saying “Bookmark Us” will do on any business website.
Do: Be Patient. All search engines and directories have different timeframes for updates, changes and new submissions.
After making changes or additions to your site, allow 90 days after initial submission for realistic results to begin showing in the major search engines and search directories.
Owning your category online is more than just a few keywords. Don’t just say you do all these things!
Do: Go and check!
Tip: Go and check again!
Because if you do your best with these few suggestions - your website will show up higher in the search results for those relevant terms you selected. You’ll be hundreds of websites ahead, and getting more qualified visitors too. There’s much more to owning your category online, but every business should be employing these “level one” marketing concepts.
There, now we can stop imagining that the search engines are perfect.
Good Luck.

I could not get many of the items off the computer. I decided to reformat. So, I backed up my data and reformatted the entire hard drive with a new version of windows completely updated. I have Mcafee on the front door and Netdetector for spyware. Within minutes of browsing with Internet Explorer, Netdetector found a rootkit and and a hard to remove trojans. Still, I lost so much valuable data from the malware, I was looking for something better. Keylogger companies actually guarantee that nobody can detect their software so I knew I must do better than a couple software packages. Network Marketing - The Evaluation for Success.
There are some serious problems facing ‘would-be representatives’ of network marketing companies. The main problem consists of an old-age idea that joining anything under 5 years old is a recipe for disaster. How daft is that?
So here’s the catch22 situation;
If no-one joined anything under 5 years old, how does a Network Marketing business become 5 years old to start with?
Evaluation of a business depends upon a number of factors;
1). The personal ability and experience of the CEO himself/herself.
2). The visibility and ease of contact to that CEO when you have questions.
3). Are the products and/or services something that people want and will buy?
4). Is there exceptional value for money offered in comparison to the competition?
5). How much competition is already in that chosen marketplace for similar products?
Those are the most important aspects of consideration, not amount of time that a networking business has remained stable. In most networking businesses, the start-up phase is where the real money is made. The business is hot, the sizzle is starting and the prospects are keen. However, never abuse those factors because it’s your credibility that will ultimately suffer, if things go wrong.
It is up to the individual to do their ‘due-diligence’ on anything they join. On a personal note, I have joined just two businesses in 5 years. That is how stringent my pre-qualifications are. Yes, I’ve received thousands of ‘great ideas’ and ‘monster earners’ over the years… but just as quickly dismissed them. Why? Because they did not meet the standards that are listed above.
If the CEO can’t be bothered to communicate with you, why should you devote your time and effort in supporting his company? If you can go to a local drug-store and buy a similar product for less than half the price, then others are going to do the same. If a product is just an overpriced excuse for starting a network marketing business, then in reality it isn’t a business, it’s a scheme.
There are over 35 million people who have expressed a strong interest in starting businesses, getting involved in mail-order marketing, or creating revenue from home. There’s a huge boom in home-based business start-ups. Our “baby boomer generation” is creating hundreds of thousands of early retirees eager for something interesting to do. There are millions of customers waiting for us!
Let’s give these people something of value and support those companies who have unique products and services that people want and need and are cost-effective. The whole of the Network Marketing Industry will benefit. In turn, so will you.

Faded away are the days where the only outlet people would be able to find music tickets would be the venue box office of the actual venue of the incredible show that you yourself were going to sit through. There are now hundreds of different ways for people to see comedy tickets with out even trying to get up out of the solace of your very own home.
Musical tickets for lovely artists such as Aqua are these days becoming harder & harder to get hold of. There are the big time websites like Timeout for which folk can get wonderful sport venue tickets for everything. Timeout is the most beloved method to see tickets. The corporation simply acts as an agent selling the ballet tickets which the client makes further for sale to them. One of the 1 st ticketing corporations to produce comedy tickets on the internet, Timeout now produce a vast % of its sports tickets on the net, a little via phones orders & a % by its legions of ticket retailers. Get your hands on London tickets from Time Out.
Ticket resale is the method of reselling sports tickets for entry to events. This is furthermore more familiarly known as ticket touting. 2 may normally grab ticket touts based surrounding the venue on the day of the show or sport venue starts. Be cautious when purchasing from a ticket reselling tout as sometimes the touts can often be selling copied comedy tickets that cannot get folk into the venue.
There is a redesigned service offering that is called SMS tickets. All that is a cheap priced ticket system that delivers sports tickets by txt messaging (SMS) and print at home electronic tickets. All that needs doing is to supply your SMS ticket or print at home electronic ticket to the venue it can often then be scanned and you’re in. You’re saving dosh by not ever being charged postage and packaging parcel costs, plus the concert booking fees are also constantly kept inexpensive. There are various advantages to SMS tickets; people get the pop concert ticket given to folk instantly, there’s no hanging all over for the postman or courier. You yourself can get new big sport game tickets sent free again if you lose them and folk can get in speedily, there’s no waiting around for somebody to manually scan the sport venue ticket.

The Purpose: To teach that charity not only takes care of the needs of people that receive it, but warms the heart of the provider.
The Lesson
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling bell.”
Bible, 1 Corinthians 13.1
So What is Charity Anyway?
For our purposes let’s say it is a benevolent good well toward all mankind that is reflected in our actions toward those who are in need.
Some say that charity is the true love of God.
Did you really say that, Margaret?
Margaret Thatcher said that nobody would remember the Good Samaritan if he had not had money.
Really?
Such a silly statement!
It’s true that he went out of his way to see that the man taken by robbers by paying for his care after he got the man into town.
But that is not the real story of the Good Samaritan.
Do you remember the story?
A man was taken by robbers and lay on the road near death. A Priest passed by, feared for his own life, and took a wide birth of the man. So did a Levite!
The man robbed was a Jew. The Priest was obligated to help the man, but he didn’t help him.
Now the Levites were to look out for the down and out. Right? They even had cities of refuge for criminals.
Because of fear and indifference, he hurriedly passed by.
Then comes the Samaritan who has nothing to do with the Jews. He goes out of his way to help the man. He gets him into town where he is safe.
We would remember him just for that, wouldn’t we?
Of course we would!
He did what the Priest or Levite should have done.
That was the point of the story. So Mrs. Thatcher isn’t so smart after all.
Yes, the Samaritan’s money improved the robbed man’s condition, but that is not what saved the man’s life.
Test Question: Which of the three, the Priest, the Levite, or the Samaritan (not counting the fact that the Samaritan had some money), had charity?
If you said, the Samaritan, give yourself a gold star.
Yes, he had a benevolent good well toward all mankind that was reflected in his actions toward those who are in need.
Just hearing the story of the Good Samaritan makes you want to do the right thing. When we see the good acts of others, it influences our actions. When we show charity, it helps others to see their potential to help others.
You don’t need money to be benevolent. A charitable act does not have to require money. In fact, most of the charitable acts we see are a simple offering of time and energy.
Let’s say the snow is twelve inches deep. You shovel your driveway and then help the old fellow next door shovel his. Now what did you offer? Money? No! Just some time and energy.
What are the benefits of charity?
The main benefit is to the person receiving the service, right? It may be, but there is something in benevolence that warms your soul. You did the right thing. You helped someone in need.
Yes, Charity can require money or assets.
It’s hard to help starving children in Afghanistan if you live in Florida. But you can through a charity that services those children by donating money or clothing or whatever is required.
You can rush aid to disaster victims by donating to the Red Cross or the Salvation Army. Habitat for Humanity is building homes right now in the Southeast where we have so much damage. I worked on four such homes in Arizona. I gave more time than money to Habitat for Humanity. Now that I live in Idaho, I haven’t worked for Habitat. But now I hear they are going to build in our little town. I’ll try to be there swinging my hammer.
Your church or community might have a program that allows you to make blankets, or health kits, or teaching kits. That way, you can put your energy and time to a good cause.
Society depends on your benevolent good will.
The government can’t do everything, can they? Recently, we have learned that they don’t even know how! They need our know-how and help in these tough times.
Governments doesn’t provide men in trucks to rush around after a snow storm to shovel the walks of widows.
They don’t send the food trucks up and down city streets to feed the homeless. They don’t pass out warm sleeping bags to these people. (Some won’t go indoors.)
No, we should do our part.
It’s true, we can’t do everything, but we can do something.
We may restrict our activities to our neighborhood.
We may expand our activities to the world.
It’s up to each of us to decide what our resources and limitations are.
Many wealthy persons have created foundations for charitable purposes. These foundations are very important to society.
They provide funding for charity, education, health services, museums, and a multitude of other purposes that benefit society.
Some wouldn’t give a tinker’s bell to a starving nun.
It’s true that many who could make a difference in this world fail to give support where needed due to their own greed.
Now, Scrooge became a repentant man.
Yes, old Ebenezer Scrooge was a greedy critter that said, “Send the poor to the poorhouse! That’s what they are for!”
Well, not exactly in those words.
He kept both hands on his purse less some poor soul needing a shilling or tuppence came by asking for help. He could use the purse to give the asker a whip across the face.
The Ghosts saved Scrooge
Scrooge saw the past, the present, and the future.
He saw his old partner, Marley, in chains!
He saw the straits of the Crockett family and Tiny Tim.
Scrooge changed his ways! Yes, he found Charity. Scrooge became a jolly old soul, tossing coins around like they were candy.
He rejoined his family and blessed the Crockett family with food and help for Tiny Tim. Why, Scrooge couldn’t have been happier!
And maybe, that is the greatest thing about Charity.
It brings happiness to those who practice it.
For The Little Children
Billy was in the first grade. He lived with his four sisters and his two brothers on the poor side of town by the fair grounds. It was during the Great Depression before World War II when men could not get work to feed their families.
Billy had a loving mother who made bread every other day. She always had a big pot of beans or a pot of soup on the stove. Billy’s daddy was out of work, but friends from the church made sure that the family did not go hungry. These same friends made sure that the family did not suffer from the cold. They made sure that the family had wood and coal to burn in their stoves.
Some of Billy’s friends made fun of Billy because the family was poorer than their family. Some men were able to keep their jobs, but Billy’s daddy ran a lumber yard and when people couldn’t afford to buy lumber, the lumber yard closed. His daddy was out of work.
Billy felt sad that his daddy couldn’t get work and that some of the other kids made fun of him. Then one day, a friend of Billy’s named Bruce invited Billy to come home with him after school. Billy went with Bruce to his house a few blocks away from the school.
When they got to the house, Bruce said, “Come on in!” Bruce walked across the rickety boards of the porch and into the house. The house was dark and cold. When Bruce turned on the light in the kitchen, Billy looked down at the floor and could see dirt between the boards.
Billy said, “Where is your mother and father?”
Bruce said, “Mother is at work. My father went away a long time ago. We don’t know where he is. We think he jumped the train.”
Billy knew the men that rode the train. Some called them bums or hobos. Billy often watched a hobo walk the two-and-a-half blocks from the tracks to his house. His mother always gave them bread and a plate of beans out the back door. If Father was home, he allowed the man to come in. Only one man was bad, and father sent him out the door with a stove poker.
The reason the hobos did not stop at the other houses was because they knew they would not be fed. Billy’s address was written on a switch control box down by the tracks. The hobos would read the address and walk straight to Billy’s house. They knew they would be fed there.
Billy felt sorry for Bruce and his mother, having no father to take care of them. Bruce opened the wood ice box. It was empty except for a metal bowl which had macaroni in it. The macaroni was as white as chalk. There was no cheese in it. Billy knew it had been cooked in water with nothing else added.
Bruce said, “Do you want some macaroni?”
Billy knew that there was hardly enough for Bruce. He said, “No, thank you. I’m not hungry. You eat it, Bruce.”
Bruce wolfed down the macaroni like he was starving. Billy thought that maybe he was, he was so skinny. Billy felt so sad that he had to leave Bruce. He said, “I better be going home now, Bruce. My mother will wonder where I am.”
When Billy got home, he was greeted by the warmth of the kitchen. Mother had made bread and there was the pot of beans on the stove. Billy knew that despite the fact that some of the other kids made fun of him for being poor, that he was rich indeed. He told Mother about how poor Bruce and his mother were. He knew that mother would try to do something about it.
What do you think his mother might have done?
(Yes, this is a true story.)

As a former technocrat who became a business man I am fascinated by what facts tell us. In relation to the baby boomer generation some surveys have revealed interesting facts on their entrepreneurial aspirations.
For those who may not know the term, baby boomer generally refers to those born between the end of the second world war and the mid to late 1950’s. The baby boomers are thought to be the generation who ‘have it all’ and who have influenced the final years of the 20th century!
A recent study has shown that 22% of men and 14% of women over 65 are self employed compared with 7% below that age.
A further related statistic is that the number of self employed entrepreneurs in the age range 45 to 64 will have grown to 15million by the end 2006 (broadly these are the baby boomers). However, in the age range 25 to 44 there will be a decline of 4million.
An earlier survey of baby boomers showed that 80% planned to work beyond retirement age and 17% of them planned to launch new businesses.
The conclusion being that self employment by American workers tends to increase with age, the most dramatic jump coming at 65. This is a case of baby boomer influence on the statistics.
It seems that baby boomers and even those older (like me) find starting a business easier than the younger entrepreneur because they have more experience to draw on.
Interestingly, 15% of all new businesses are more likely to be started by males rather than females.
Where you might ask is all this leading us?
Well, I started my business at 50! Not a baby boomer, but broadly I fit with the surveys which qualifies me to add a little to the information.
My experience is, if you have something to offer, product or service there is everything to be gained by starting a business, baby boomer or not.
Yes there are risks and you will work very hard but in my opinion the freedom to make your own decisions affecting your life and develop as an entrepreneur plus many other compensations, make it all worthwhile.
In my case to become a business consultant was natural because of the nature of my corporate life - managing and turning companies round.
It does not suit everyone but, if you are thinking of starting say a home business there are a number of things to consider, health, energy, drive, your goals and your finances.
Many start a business with a work at home job.
Most of all, do you have the backing of your spouse? That is vital. In my quieter moments I am humbled by the faith my wife showed in me!
If you have not yet fully decided to go it alone think carefully about it.
If you are already on your way I hope you are doing well. Stick at it, it will be worthwhile in every sense. Opportunity is everywhere, as the 15million baby boomers seem to recognise.
Tip In times of difficulty never lose sight of your achievements.
